SINQ - Access Possibilities, Proposal Guidelines
There are two different access possibilities to SINQ: shortterm (standard)
proposals and requests for urgent beamtime. Below you will find some general and specific
guidelines for the two categories. More information about the access can be found
on the Webpages 'Call for Proposals' and
'Swiss Neutrons for Europe'. Danish users of RITA-II and SANS-II please have a look here.
1. General Guidelines:
- Proposals should only be submitted via the DUO web interface: DUO login page.
Written forms and email attachments will not be accepted anymore.
Further DUO help is available here.
- The proposals need a clear and precise definition of the proposed
experiments and a well written scientific justification why these experiments should be performed.
- New users and poposers who require critical sample environment or special experimental conditions are asked to contact the respective instrument responsibles prior to the submission of a proposal and discuss the feasibility of the propsed experiment carefully.
- The aim of the experiment should clearly be stated and the proposal should be specific.
- A reasonable time estimate should be included. If necessary please contact the instrument
responsible(s) in advance.
- The strategy/method of data treatment should be described.
- Previous/preliminary data should be shown if available.
- Please indicate on the proposal if the project is granted by a funding agency.
- If the proposal is submitted as continuation of a preceding experiment, a one page experimental report
on the previous experiment is mandatory. Please
download the forms here and submit the report
via the Digital User Office DUO.
- Deadlines: 15/05 and 15/11
- No Deadlines required for: Urgent beamtime requests.
2. Short term proposals:
- Short term proposals define experiments on a single and specific problem.
- They request beamtime only within the forthcoming
SINQ cycle. Deadline 15/05: allocation period 01/09-20/12, deadline 15/11:
allocation period 01/05-31/08.
- Usually shortterm proposals may ask for beamtime on one SINQ instrument.
New: if more than one instrument is necessary to complete the study
it is now also possible to ask for beamtime on several instruments
within a short term proposal.
- The proposers must restrict to the space given in the
online submission form.
3. Long term Proposals:
- The submission of long term proposals has been disabled since fall 2008. Instead we ask our users to submit normal (short term) proposals and to make use of the continuation option later on.
4. Request for Urgent Beamtime (Director's Discretion Time):
- Beside the ordinary proposal submission described above it is
also possible to ask for urgent beamtime or director's discretion
time. On each SINQ instrument a certain share of urgent beamtime is reserved.
- This option should only be used in case of very urgent projects,
restricted lifetime of important samples etc.
- For the request of urgent beamtime please send an informal letter with the relevant informations
about the project, the sample, the requested instrument and number of
necessary days throughout all the year either to:
