Swiss Neutrons and Swiss Muons for Europe

NMI3 - Integrated Infrastructure Initiative for
Neutron Scattering and Muon Spectroscopy
The NMI3 project falls within the activity 'Structuring the European Research Area:
Research Infrastructures' of the EU 6th Framework programme.
In the EU Framework Programme 6 (FP6) all of the different activities related
to a common type of Research Infrastructure are combined into a single project -
an Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (I3). The Integrated Infrastructure Initiative
for Neutron Scattering and Muon Spectroscopy (NMI3) brings together 23 partners from 14
countries, including 11 research infrastructures, together with other interested organisations.
More information.
General:
SINQ and SμS both are funded as two of the partners within the NMI3 programme of FP6. Hence we are
able to support part of our users from EU member countries and
associated states (see table below) by the reimbursement of travel
and accomodation expenses. Please note that not each eligible proposal
can be funded due to limited amount of available funds. Funding in general is not available
for Swiss users since due to the EU regulations users from the host country are not eligible.
If an experiment is eligible and has passed the criteria for funding we usually
reimburse the expenses for one member of a group of scientists performing an
experiment at SINQ. The group leader of the experimental team is free to
decide which scientist out of his team should be supported but it has to
be somebody affiliated to one of the countries listed below!
Criteria for Eligibility:
A necessary condition for being eligible for funding is that the proposal
clearly originates from an EU member country or an EU associated state (see
list below). Hence the main proposer and the majority of the experimental team must
be affiliated to an institute located in one of those countries. Not
the personal citizenship but the affiliation country of the main proposer is decisive!
Proposals:
Please submit your proposals according to the actual
calls for proposals. In case that your proposal is eligible within NMI3
it automatically enters the selection procedure for the access program. There is no need for the
users to claim their request additionally.
Criteria for Funding:
Once being eligible the proposal is refereed by the SINQ/SμS proposal review committees together with the non-eligible proposals. The main
criterion for funding is scientific excellence of the project
followed by the intention to fund young scientists, new neutron users
and projects from countries without a national neutron source. The
proposers are informed about the success of their application for funding together
with the information about the general acceptance/rejection of the proposal. Please
contact us directly for any further question.
Acknowledgement statement in publications:
All publications resulting from experiments which were funded within the access
program should contain the following acknowledgement statement:
'This research project has been supported by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme
through the Key Action: Strengthening the European Research Area, Research Infrastructures. Contract nr: RII3-CT-2003-505925'.
On top of that the usual PSI acknowledgement statement is required. Please have a further look
here. Many thanks for your cooperation.
Report Duties for Funded Projects:
Users whose experiments have been supported within the NMI3 access program have to provide
some information after performing the experiment. This is necessary for us to fulfill our
reporting duties against the funding agency. So please follow the instructions below:
- Read the
instructions first.
- Please submit an experimental report as pdf file via the
Digital User Office DUO. The report template can be downloaded here.
- Submit the online
EU user satisfaction form. Please use
NMI3 / RII3-CT-2003-505925 as EC contract number and the following syntax for the user project
acronym: SINQ/SμS_proposalnumber, e.g. SINQ_20060453 (DUO proposals) or SINQ_II/05_S-015, SμS_RA_03_22 (pre-DUO proposals).
Please be aware that the reports and acknowledgements within the
access program do not replace the correct acknowledgement of SINQ/SμS and the usual
experimental report form. If you have any further question please don't hesitate to contact the
PSI User Office.
