The Paul Scherrer Institut is a multi-disciplinary institute for research in the natural and engineering sciences with emphasis in the areas of condensed matter physics, material science, elementary particle physics, astrophysics and life sciences as well as in energy and the environment. The Laboratory for Neutron Scattering has an open postdoc position for the

Development of a Phase Space Transformer

Your tasks:
  • Realisation of a prototype of a Phase Space Transformer (PST) which shifts the high phase space density of ultra cold neutrons (UCN) into the cold or thermal regime. Extensive calculations and simulations have already been performed. The aim is to design and construct a working device including the interface to the UCN-source.
  • Performance of research in the field of solid state physics or material science, mainly by neutron scattering techniques (the use of X-ray scattering techniques at the Swiss Light Source SLS is encouraged as well).
  • Co-operation with guest scientists in their experiments at SINQ.
Your profile:
  • You are a graduated research scientist with a PhD in physics, preferentially with some years of research experience in the field of neutron and/or X-ray scattering. You have some practical knowledge of computing. You are willing to work in a team and to communicate (establishing a professional relationship with both staff and guest scientists) as well as to work flexible hours.
Contact:
For further information, please contact Dr. P. Allenspach, phone: +41 56 310 25 27, Fax: +41 56 310 29 39 or e-mail: peter.allenspach@psi.ch.

Please send your application to: PAUL SCHERRER INSTITUT, Human Resources, att. Mr. Thomas Erb, Ref. code 3303, 5232 Villigen PSI, Switzerland.
